Marinade and Coating

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Whisk until well combined. Add the chicken pieces to the buttermilk mixture, making sure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until the spices are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or large pot, pour in the vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of flour into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. One piece at a time, take a piece of chicken from the buttermilk mixture and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring that it is thoroughly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the chicken for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious buttermilk fried chicken!
