Meatballs

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, minced garlic, finely chopped onion, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Cook Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add olive oil if needed. Sauté the minced garlic and finely chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 7

    Return Meatballs

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the sauce. Cover and cook for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the meatballs to absorb the flavors.

Final Assembly

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the meatballs with the sauce over pasta or in a sub, topped with coarse grated cheese and fresh basil.
