Method

Bread Sticks Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried oregano.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Sticks

After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut into strips approximately 1 inch wide.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Place the strips on a greased baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. 8

    Preheat Oven and Add Cheese

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top of each bread stick.

  9. 9

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 10

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 11

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. 12

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 13

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
