Method
Preparing the Sushi Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the sushi rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear, about 2-3 minutes.
- 2
Cook the Rice
Combine the rinsed sushi rice and water in a rice cooker or pot. Cook according to the appliance instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
- 3
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture using a wooden spatula. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
Preparing the Filling
- 4
Prepare the Snow Crab Mixture
In a bowl, combine the snow crab meat, mayonnaise, and Sriracha sauce. Mix gently until well combined.
- 5
Assembling the Sushi Rolls
- 6
Prepare the Rolling Station
Lay a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface. Place a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the mat.
- 7
Spread the Rice
With wet hands, take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.
- 8
- 9
Roll the Sushi
Using the bamboo mat, lift the edge closest to you and roll it away from you, pressing gently to form a tight roll. Continue rolling until the entire sushi roll is formed, sealing the edge with a bit of water.
- 10
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts to maintain clean edges.
Serving the Sushi
- 11
Plate the Sushi
Arrange the sushi rolls on a serving platter. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.
