Ingredients for Caramelized Black Cod

Method

Directions for Caramelized Black Cod

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a medium bowl, combine the miso paste, brown sugar, soy sauce, sake, mirin, sesame oil, and chili paste. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Black Cod

Place the black cod fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the fish. Ensure that the fish is fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

  4. 4

    Bake the Black Cod

Remove the black cod from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off. Place the fillets on the prepared baking sheet, skin-side down. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.

  5. 5

    Caramelize the Fish

For an added touch of caramelization, switch your oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Keep an eye on the fish to prevent burning.

  6. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the black cod from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
