Pork Belly Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork Belly
Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F). Score the skin of the pork belly with a sharp knife and season all sides with salt, black pepper, and five-spice powder. Place the pork belly in a roasting pan.
- 2
Roast the Pork Belly
Mix soy sauce, honey, and water together and pour it over the pork belly. Cover with aluminum foil and roast for about 2 hours, basting every 30 minutes. Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 220°C (425°F) for an additional 30 minutes until the skin is crispy. Remove from the oven and let it rest before slicing.
Bun Preparation
- 3
Make the Dough
In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine with yeast mixture, add milk and vegetable oil. Knead until smooth.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape and Steam the Buns
Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them into discs. Place in a steamer lined with parchment paper and steam for 10-15 minutes until fluffy.
Pickled Vegetables Preparation
- 6
Prepare the Vegetables
Julienne the carrot and cucumber. In a bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Add the vegetables and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Sauce Preparation
- 7
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, sriracha, and lime juice until well combined.
Assembly
- 8
Assemble the Pork Belly Buns
Slice the pork belly into thin pieces. Take a steamed bun, add a slice of pork belly, top with pickled vegetables, and drizzle with the sauce. Serve immediately.
