Cocktail

Method

Glass Prep

  1. 1

Chill a rocks or Margarita glass in the freezer for a few minutes, or fill it with ice water while you mix the cocktail to chill it.

  2. 2

Run a lime wedge around the outer rim of the glass (not the inside). Place coarse salt on a small plate and gently press the moistened rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), and 0.5 oz simple syrup if you prefer a slightly sweeter drink. The simple syrup is optional—omit if you like a more tart Margarita.

  2. 4

    Add ice

Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with ice (roughly 1 cup).

  3. 5

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.

  4. 6

    Strain

Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice (rocks style). If you prefer a straight-up Margarita, strain into the chilled glass without ice.

  5. 7

    Garnish

Garnish with the reserved lime wedge or a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately.
