Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare shaker and ice
Fill a cocktail shaker or blender with the measured crushed ice (about 1 cup). If you prefer a smoother, slushy texture, use a blender; for a shaken chilled cocktail, use a shaker with cubed ice.
- 2
Combine ingredients
Pour 2 oz white rum, 3 oz pineapple juice, 1.5 oz cream of coconut, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice into the shaker or blender over the ice.
- 3
Shake or blend
If using a shaker: secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy. If using a blender: blend on medium-high for 6–12 seconds until the mixture is smooth and slushy.
- 4
Add blue curaçao
Strain the shaken cocktail into a chilled hurricane or tall glass filled with fresh crushed ice. Slowly pour 0.75 oz blue curaçao over the top so it sinks and creates a layered blue-on-white 'Mar Azul' effect. Alternatively, gently stir once for a uniform turquoise color.
- 5
Adjust and serve
Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity if desired: add a small splash (0.25 oz) pineapple juice to sweeten, or 0.25 oz lime juice to brighten. Serve immediately.
Garnish
- 6
Skewer a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry on the toothpick or cocktail pick and rest it on the glass rim. Add an optional mint sprig tucked beside the garnish for aroma.
