Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Make mango puree

Peel and dice 1 medium ripe mango (about 1 to 1 1/4 cups diced). Place the mango flesh in a blender and puree until very smooth, about 30–45 seconds. If the puree is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of the orange juice and blend briefly to loosen.

  2. 2

    Chill glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail, about 2–3 minutes. Discard ice water before serving.

  3. 3

    Build the cocktail

In a cocktail shaker, add 1 cup mango puree, 3 oz vodka, 1 cup fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice. Fill the shaker halfway with ice (about 1 cup).

  4. 4

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and the mixture is well chilled and slightly frothy.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass and fill the glass with fresh ice. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the ice. If you prefer a lighter, slightly fizzy drink, top with 2 oz club soda and gently stir once to combine.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish with a fresh mint sprig, a mango slice on the rim, and an orange wheel. Give the mint a gentle slap on the back of your hand to release aroma before placing it in the drink.

  7. 7

    Adjust sweetness (optional)

Taste and, if the drink needs more sweetness, add up to 0.25–0.5 oz more simple syrup, stir gently, and re-taste.
