Method
Breadsticks
- 1
Prepare the Yeast
In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Breadsticks
After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long stick.
- 6
Second Rise
Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- 7
Bake
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the breadsticks for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush with olive oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
