Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- 2
Prepare the Turkey
Remove the turkey from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels. Remove any giblets from the cavity.
- 3
Season the Turkey
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and dried sage. Rub the olive oil all over the turkey, then apply the seasoning mixture thoroughly on the skin and inside the cavity.
- 4
Stuff the Turkey
Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the whole lemon and the bunch of fresh parsley.
Roasting
- 5
Prepare for Roasting
Place the turkey breast side up on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
- 6
Roast the Turkey
Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for approximately 13-15 minutes per pound. For a 12 lb turkey, this will take about 2.5 to 3 hours.
- 7
Baste the Turkey
Every 30-45 minutes, baste the turkey with a mixture of melted butter and chicken broth. This will keep the turkey moist.
- 8
Check for Doneness
Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the turkey. It should reach 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh and breast.
Finishing
- 9
Rest the Turkey
Once the turkey is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
- 10
Carve and Serve
Carve the turkey and serve it with your favorite sides.
