Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Prepare the Tartar Sauce
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, pickles, hot sauce, and lemon juice. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a shallow dish, mix together flour, cornmeal, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk.
- 3
Batter the Fish
Dip each Mahi Mahi fillet first into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture, pressing to adhere.
- 4
Fry the Fish
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the battered fillets and fry for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Assemble the Sandwich
Slice the hoagie buns in half. On the bottom half, layer with lettuce, fried Mahi Mahi, tomatoes, and a generous spoonful of spicy tartar sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately while hot with additional tartar sauce on the side if desired.
