Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk. Combine the wet and dry ingredients to form a batter.
- 3
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Then, coat each ring in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 375°F (190°C).
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully drop the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
