Prepare Cake Base

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. 2

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake

Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool

Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting it into small squares.

Prepare Frosting and Glaze

  1. 7

    Make Buttercream Frosting

In a bowl, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar, adding heavy cream until the desired consistency is reached.

  2. 8

    Melt Chocolate

Melt the dark chocolate and milk chocolate separately in a microwave or double boiler.

  3. 9

    Combine and Color

If desired, mix in food coloring to the frosting, and then spread or dip the cooled cake squares in the melted chocolate.

Decorate

  1. 10

    Add Marzipan

Roll out the marzipan and cut into shapes to decorate the petite fours.

  2. 11

    Garnish

Top with candied fruits and a sprinkle of edible glitter for an elegant finish.
