Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust them with flour; tap out any excess flour.

Baking the Cake

  1. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a double boiler or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring until smooth.

  2. 4

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and large eggs until the mixture is pale and fluffy.

  3. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, then mix until well combined.

  4. 6

    Add Flour

Sift the all-purpose flour into the chocolate mixture and gently fold it in until just combined.

  5. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  6. 8

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

Serving

  1. 9

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool for 1 minute before inverting onto plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
