Method
Cake
- 1
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
- 4
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that's okay!
- 5
Pour and Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool Cakes
Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache
- 7
Heat Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- 8
Combine with Chocolate
Place the chocolate chips in a bowl and pour the hot cream over them. Let sit for 5 minutes without stirring.
- 9
Stir Ganache
After 5 minutes, stir the mixture until smooth and glossy. Let it cool slightly to thicken.
- 10
Top Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour half of the ganache over the first layer, then top with the second layer and pour the remaining ganache on top.
