Base Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Then, carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a bowl, beat the unsalted butter and cream cheese together until creamy and smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined. Pour in the heavy cream, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; mix until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
