Ingredients for Pork Cubano

Method

Directions for Preparing Pork Cubano

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

In a bowl, combine minced garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.

  2. 2

    Cook the Pork

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pot over medium heat. Sear the pork on all sides until browned. Cover and transfer to the oven. Cook for 3-4 hours until tender.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Rice and Beans

While the pork is cooking, prepare the rice according to the package instructions. Heat the cooked black beans in a saucepan over low heat.

  4. 4

    Fry the Plantains

Peel and slice the ripe plantains diagonally. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the plantain slices until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Alambres

In the same skillet, add sliced bell peppers and onion, and sauté until soft. Set aside.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Dish

Once the pork is done, shred it using two forks. Serve the pork with pupusas, rice, beans, fried plantains, avocado slices, sautéed vegetables, curry sauce, and salsa on the side.
