Huarache Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Huarache Base

In a large bowl, mix the corn masa with water and a pinch of salt until a smooth dough forms. Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each portion into an oval about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Huarache

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook each huarache for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Season the steak with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-sear the steak over high heat for about 6-8 minutes per side for medium rare, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Vegetables

Sauté the chopped onion and bell pepper in the same skillet used for the steak until they are soft. Add the nopales and corn, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Huarache

Spread a layer of refried beans on each huarache base. Top with cooked rice, sliced steak, sautéed vegetables, queso fresco, and avocado slices.

  6. 6

    Finish and Serve

Drizzle chili sauce over the assembled huaraches and serve immediately.
