Preparation

    Wash the Zipper Peas

    Thoroughly rinse the zipper peas under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.

    Prepare Optional Ingredients

    If using, chop the onion and mince the garlic. Set them aside for cooking.

Cooking

    Boil Water

    In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

    Add Zipper Peas

    Once the water is boiling, carefully add the zipper peas and stir to combine.

    Seasoning

    Add 1 tsp of salt to the pot and stir well. If using, add the chopped onion and minced garlic at this point.

    Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pot. Let the peas simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until they are tender.

    Add Butter and Pepper

    Once the peas are tender, stir in 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix until the butter is melted and evenly coats the peas.
