Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peeling the Potatoes

Begin by peeling the russet potatoes to remove the skin. Cut them into evenly sized chunks to ensure they cook uniformly.

  2. 2

    Boiling the Potatoes

Place the potato chunks into a large pot and cover them with water. Add a teaspoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing and Mixing

  1. 3

    Draining the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander. Allow them to sit for a couple of minutes to let excess moisture evaporate.

  2. 4

    Mashing the Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

  3. 5

    Adding Ingredients

Add in the unsalted butter, whole milk, sour cream, garlic powder, black pepper, and additional salt to taste. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated and the mixture is fluffy.

  4. 6

    Final Seasoning

Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper according to your preference.
