Hamburger Steak Patties

Grilled Onions

Brown Gravy

Method

Preparing Hamburger Steak Patties

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, egg, and bread crumbs. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 1 inch thick.

Grilling Onions

  1. 3

    Slice Onions

Peel and slice the large onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Cook Onions

In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sprinkle with 0.5 teaspoons of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Making Brown Gravy

  1. 5

    Make Roux

In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux.

  2. 6

    Add Broth

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of beef broth until smooth. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 7

    Season Gravy

Stir in 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 0.5 teaspoons of black pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Cooking Hamburger Steaks

  1. 8

    Cook Patties

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the hamburger patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness.

  2. 9

    Serve

Once cooked, place the hamburger steaks on plates, top with grilled onions and drizzle with brown gravy. Serve immediately.
