Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Tenderizing the Steak

Pound the beef round steak with a meat mallet until it is about 1/2 inch thick. This will help tenderize the meat.

  2. 2

    Seasoning the Steak

Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper evenly over both sides of the steak.

  3. 3

    Coating the Steak

Place the all-purpose flour in a shallow dish. Dredge each seasoned steak in the flour, ensuring it is well coated on both sides. Shake off any excess flour.

Frying the Steak

  1. 4

    Heating the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).

  2. 5

    Frying the Steak

Carefully place the coated steaks into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels.

Making the Gravy

  1. 6

    Creating a Roux

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the butter. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour, stirring constantly for about 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden color.

  2. 7

    Adding Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook while stirring until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 8

    Seasoning the Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well and remove from heat.
