Cooking Rump Steak

Prepare the Steak
Take the rump steaks out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking to allow them to come to room temperature. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Heat the Pan
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it's hot but not smoking.

Making Red Wine Sauce

Sauté Shallots
In the same pan used for the steaks, add the chopped shallots and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes.

Simmer Sauce
Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes or until it has reduced by half.

Finish Sauce
Stir in the butter and thyme, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm until serving.
Preparing Chips

Cut the Potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into chip shapes, about 1 cm thick.

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Bake the Chips
Spread the chips on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
