Preparation of Fried Green Tomatoes

Slice the Tomatoes
Wash and slice the green tomatoes into 1/2-inch thick slices.

Set Up Breading Station
In one bowl, place flour mixed with salt, pepper, and cayenne. In another bowl, pour buttermilk. In a third bowl, add cornmeal.

Bread the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice into the flour, then the buttermilk, and finally coat with cornmeal.

Heat Oil
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.

Fry the Tomatoes
Fry the breaded tomato slices in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Plate
On a serving plate, layer the fried green tomatoes, top with lettuce, sliced red tomatoes, a generous dollop of remoulade sauce, and finish with a spoonful of bacon onion jam.
