Preparation and Assembly
1. Prepare the Base
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chocolate cake to fit the bottom of a round baking dish.
2. Layer the Ice Cream
Scoop the vanilla ice cream and place it on top of the chocolate cake, smoothing the top with a spatula. Freeze for at least 1 hour to set.
3. Make the Meringue
In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg whites and sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water and whisk until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and whip until stiff peaks form.
4. Cover with Meringue
Take the ice cream and cake out of the freezer. Spread the meringue over the top, creating decorative peaks.
5. Bake the Alaska
Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
6. Prepare for Flambé
Carefully remove the Baked Alaska from the oven. Heat the brandy in a small saucepan until warm, then pour it over the meringue.
7. Flambé the Baked Alaska
Using a long lighter, ignite the brandy. Allow the flames to dance for a few moments before extinguishing.
8. Serve
Drizzle warm chocolate sauce and salted caramel sauce over the Baked Alaska before serving. Enjoy!
