Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patties

In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form into 2 equal patties.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Gruyere cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Fried Onions Preparation

  1. 4

    Slice the Onion

    Thinly slice the large onion.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onions

In a bowl, toss the sliced onions with flour until well coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onions

Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Once hot, fry the coated onions until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Special Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle relish, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well and set aside.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Build the Burger

Toast the challah rolls. Spread special sauce on the bottom half, add the cooked patty with melted Gruyere, top with fried onions, and cover with the top half of the roll.
