Method
Base Preparation
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Chill Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results, to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to chill properly.
Churning and Flavoring
Churn the Base
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Add Seasonal Flavors
During the last 5 minutes of churning, add your choice of seasonal flavors (fresh berries, diced peaches, or pumpkin puree) to the ice cream maker. If using, add chocolate chips as well.
Freezing
Transfer and Freeze
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and smooth the top with a spatula. Seal the container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
Serve
Once the ice cream is firm, scoop into bowls or cones and enjoy!
