Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your wood-fired oven to about 500°F (260°C) or as hot as it can get.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a circular shape, about 10-12 inches in diameter.
- 5
Add Toppings
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough. Tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Carefully place the pizza in the hot oven. Bake for about 7-10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 7
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top, slice, and serve hot.
