Method
Preparation of Salad Base
- 1
Prepare Romaine Lettuce
Wash the romaine lettuce thoroughly under cold water. Dry it using a salad spinner or by patting it with a clean kitchen towel. Chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces and place it in a large salad bowl.
- 2
Grate Romano Cheese
Using a box grater or a food processor, grate the romano cheese. Set aside for later use in the salad.
Making the Dressing
- 3
Combine Ingredients for Dressing
In a medium bowl, add the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Preparing Croutons
- 4
Toast the Rustic Bread
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the rustic bread slices into cubes. In a mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, and salt. Toss until the bread is evenly coated.
- 5
Bake the Croutons
Spread the coated bread cubes onto a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Stir halfway through to ensure even toasting.
Assembling the Salad
- 6
Combine All Ingredients
In the bowl with the chopped romaine, add the grated romano cheese and the creamy Caesar dressing. Toss everything together until the lettuce is well coated with the dressing.
- 7
Add Croutons
Just before serving, add the toasted croutons to the salad and give it a final gentle toss to combine.
