Marinara Sauce

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set aside.

Spaghetti

  1. 4

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 5

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Prepare the Sauce

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and return the cooked meatballs to the skillet. Cover and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Final Assembly

  1. 9

    Combine and Serve

On a plate, place a serving of spaghetti, top with the marinara sauce and meatballs. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired. Serve hot.
