Method

Preparation of Base Ingredients

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Malt Extract

Once the water is boiling, slowly stir in 1 cup of malt extract until fully dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Hops

Add 1 tablespoon of hops to the pot and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes. This will add bitterness and flavor.

  4. 4

    Cool the Mixture

After simmering, remove the pot from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

  5. 5

    Add Yeast and Sugar

Once cooled, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar into the mixture, stirring gently to combine.

  6. 6

    Ferment

Cover the pot with a clean cloth and let it sit in a warm place for 24 hours to ferment slightly.

Finalizing the Drink

  1. 7

    Add Lemon Juice

After fermentation, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the mixture for flavor.

  2. 8

Strain and Mix with Carbonated Water

Strain the mixture to remove solids and then combine it with 2 cups of carbonated water in a large pitcher.

  3. 9

    Serve

Pour the drink into glasses over ice and garnish with mint leaves and a slice of lime if desired.

  4. 10

    Add Optional Flavors

If desired, add 1 teaspoon of grated ginger for an extra kick and stir well.
