Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Hazelnuts

Roast the hazelnuts in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes or until they are fragrant and lightly browned. Allow them to cool, then remove the skins by rubbing them with a clean kitchen towel.

2

Infuse the Vodka

Place the roasted hazelnuts in a large glass jar and pour the vodka over them. Seal the jar tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks, shaking it gently every few days.

3

Make the Simple Syrup

In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Once dissolved, remove from heat and let it cool.

4

Combine Ingredients

After 2 weeks, strain the hazelnut-infused vodka through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar. Add the cooled simple syrup, split vanilla bean (scrape the seeds into the mixture), and cocoa powder. Stir well to combine.

5

Add Optional Flavors

If desired, add almond extract and chocolate extract for additional flavor. Stir to incorporate.

6

Bottle the Frangelico

Pour the finished liqueur into clean bottles, seal tightly, and store in the refrigerator. Allow it to sit for at least a week before using for the best flavor.
