Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- 7
Make the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, mixing until smooth.
- 8
Add Vanilla
Stir in the vanilla extract and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
- 9
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting over the top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
