Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any debris. Remove the beards by pulling them away from the mussel.

  2. 2

    Make the Marinade

In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Marinate the Mussels

Place the cleaned mussels in a large bowl. Pour the marinade over the mussels and toss to coat evenly. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Cook the Mussels

Preheat a large pot over medium heat. Add the marinated mussels along with the marinade. Cover and let steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that do not open.

  2. 5

    Serve

Transfer the mussels to a serving bowl, pouring the broth over them. Garnish with additional parsley if desired.
