Meatballs

Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.

Italian Sausage Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare the Sausage Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, fennel seeds, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and sugar. Mix until the ingredients are well combined.

  2. 5

    Shape the Sausages

Shape the mixture into sausage links or patties as desired. Set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 7

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and chopped basil. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Combine Everything

Add the baked meatballs and shaped sausage to the sauce. Allow everything to simmer together for 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the meatballs and sausage over pasta or in a sub roll, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
