Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll or stretch the dough into a 12-inch circle.

  3. 7

    Add Tomato Sauce

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese and Basil

Tear the fresh mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute it evenly over the sauce. Scatter the fresh basil leaves on top.

  5. 9

    Drizzle Olive Oil

Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the pizza and sprinkle with salt to taste.

  6. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  7. 11

    Slice and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool slightly, then slice it into wedges and serve hot.
