Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Fettuccini

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccini and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the fettuccini in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse as you want the starch to help the sauce adhere.

Bolognese Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened and the onion is translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Cook the Ground Beef

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 6

    Incorporate Tomato Paste and Wine

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes. Then pour in the red wine, scraping the bottom of the skillet to deglaze. Let it simmer for about 3-4 minutes until reduced slightly.

  5. 7

    Add Canned Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed canned tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 8

    Combine Sauce with Pasta

Once the sauce is ready, add the drained fettuccini to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. Heat through for 2-3 minutes.

  7. 9

    Serve

Serve the fettuccini bolognese in bowls, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
