Prepare the Sugar
In an Old Fashioned glass, place the sugar cube and add the water. Muddle the sugar and water together until the sugar is dissolved.

Add Bitters
Add the Angostura bitters to the muddled sugar mixture. Stir gently to combine.

Add Ice
Add a large ice cube or several smaller ice cubes to the glass to chill the drink.

Stir the Cocktail
Stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds to ensure proper dilution and chilling.

Garnish
Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by twisting it, then drop the peel into the glass. Add the maraschino cherry for garnish.
