Soda Base

Citrus Brightness

Method

Soda Base

  1. 1

Chill the glass and all liquid ingredients beforehand so the finished drink stays cold and fizzy.

  2. 2

    Combine cola and carbonated water

In a measuring pitcher, gently pour 2 cups of cola and 1 cup of chilled carbonated water. Stir once very gently with a bar spoon to combine without losing carbonation.

Flavor & Syrup

  1. 3

    Add syrups and extracts

To the combined soda base, add 1 tablespoon cherry syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a dash (or 1 tsp optional) of almond extract if using. If you want a faint anise note, add up to 1 teaspoon of anise or black licorice liqueur. Stir gently once to incorporate. Taste and adjust cherry or vanilla levels to preference—add up to another 1/2 tablespoon cherry syrup for a stronger cherry presence.

Citrus Brightness

  1. 4

    Brighten with citrus

Add 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice to the mixture. These small amounts lift the flavors and balance sweetness without making the drink tart. Stir gently to combine.

Finish & Garnish

  1. 5

    Prepare serving glass

Fill a tall glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes. Pour the prepared soda mixture over the ice slowly to preserve carbonation.

  2. 6

Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw.
