Preparation

Cocktail Base

1. Measure and combine

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add 2 oz light rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh orange juice to the shaker.

2. Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds, until the outside of the shaker becomes cold and slightly frosted.

Build & Finish

3. Prepare glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with fresh ice to chill.

4. Strain and top

Strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared glass over the ice. Top with 2 oz grapefruit soda (or club soda if you prefer a lighter, less sweet drink).

5. Add bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top to create aromatic 'sockeyed' notes and mild color contrast.

Garnish & Serve

6. Garnish the drink with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and an optional thin grapefruit slice floated on top. Give the drink a gentle stir (1–2 turns) to integrate the bitters and soda without flattening the bubbles.

7. Serve immediately while cold.
