Reposado Tequila Flight

Method

Prep & glassware

  1. 1

Chill the tasting glasses briefly by rinsing with cold water and draining, or place them in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. Use one clean glass per tequila to avoid mixing aromas.

  2. 2

Arrange the three glasses in a row from left to right and label them lightly (paper tent, sticker or by position) so you can identify Don Fulano, Herradura and Milagro in the tasting order.

  3. 3

Place the lime wedges, a small pinch of sea salt on a dish, the crackers or bread, and a glass of sparkling water nearby as palate cleansers.

Pouring the flight

  1. 4

Measure and pour 1 oz of Don Fulano Reposado into the first glass. Hold the bottle a few inches above the glass and pour steadily to avoid splashing.

  2. 5

Measure and pour 1 oz of Herradura Reposado into the second glass, using the same steady technique so pours are consistent across samples.

  3. 6

Measure and pour 1 oz of Milagro Reposado into the third glass. Leave the bottles nearby so you can inspect labels during the tasting.

Tasting procedure

  1. 7

    Visual

Hold each glass up to the light and note the color and clarity. Reposados are typically pale gold to deeper amber depending on barrel aging—record observations (legs, hue).

  2. 8

    Aroma

Warm the glass gently in your hands and take one or two short, gentle sniffs with your mouth slightly open. Note dominant aromas (agave, oak, vanilla, caramel, spice, butter). Start with Don Fulano, then Herradura, then Milagro.

  3. 9

    Taste

Take a small sip and let it coat your tongue, then inhale gently through your nose to open aromas. Identify flavors (agave sweetness, oak, coconut, baking spice, pepper, citrus). Compare body, balance, and finish between the three samples. Use crackers and sparkling water between samples to reset your palate as needed.

  4. 10

    Finish

Observe the length and character of the finish—how long flavors linger, whether the finish is warming, peppery, sweet or woody. Write down impressions for each tequila.

Palate cleansing & notes

  1. 11

Between each sample, eat a small piece of cracker or a bite of plain bread and sip sparkling water to neutralize residual flavors. Wait 60–90 seconds before moving to the next tequila.

  2. 12

Optionally taste a lime wedge with a tiny pinch of sea salt after the flight to contrast the tequilas’ profiles and refresh the palate.

  3. 13

Compare notes: summarize which tequila you found most balanced, most oaky, most agave-forward, and which you preferred overall.

Cleanup & storage

  1. 14

Recap the bottles, return any remaining tequila to a cool, dark place upright. Rinse glasses and gently wash to remove residual oils or sugars.
