For the Mozzarella Sticks

Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Step 1: Prepare the Cheese

Take the mozzarella cheese sticks and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to make them firmer and easier to coat.

  2. 2

Step 2: Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and place the breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

Step 3: Coat the Cheese Sticks

Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer. Dip each stick into the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally coat them with the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese sticks to ensure they stick well.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Freeze Again

Once coated, place the cheese sticks back in the freezer for another 15-20 minutes to firm up the coating.

  5. 5

    Step 5: Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

Step 6: Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Step 1: Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 8

Step 2: Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 9

    Step 3: Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, stir in the chopped fresh basil before serving.
