In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Add Cheese
After flipping, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.
