Method

Preparation of Tuna and Vegetables

  1. 1

    Dice the Tuna

Using a sharp knife, dice the fresh sushi-grade tuna into small cubes, about 1/2 inch in size. Place the diced tuna in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Avocado

Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Dice the avocado into small cubes and add it to the mixing bowl with the tuna.

  3. 3

    Slice the Cucumber

Peel the cucumber (optional) and slice it thinly. You can also dice it if you prefer. Add the cucumber to the mixing bowl.

Marinade Preparation

  1. 4

    Mix the Marinade

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, and chili flakes. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 5

    Combine with Tuna Mixture

Pour the marinade over the diced tuna, avocado, and cucumber in the mixing bowl. Gently toss to coat all ingredients evenly with the marinade.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Tartare

Using a ring mold or a small bowl, pack the tuna tartare mixture tightly and then carefully lift off the mold to create a neat stack on a serving plate.

  2. 7

    Garnish

Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and add a handful of microgreens or cilantro for garnish.

  3. 8

    Serve Immediately

Serve the tuna tartare immediately as a refreshing appetizer or light meal.
