Calamari

Method

Frying the Calamari

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well until all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  3. 3

    Bread the Calamari

Toss the cleaned calamari rings in the flour mixture until they are fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 4

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari to the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Preparing the Cocktail Sauce

  1. 5

    Mix the Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using). Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

Arrange the crispy calamari on a serving platter, and garnish with sliced pepperoncini peppers. Serve with the housemade cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
