Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, cream the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Beat until the frosting is fluffy and well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top of the frosting. Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Directions

  1. 9

    Serve the Cake

Slice the chocolate cake into desired portions and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
