Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's hot enough for baking the cake.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until well blended.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Mix until smooth.

  5. 5

    Prepare Baking Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent sticking.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the pans from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 9

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, beating to spreading consistency.

  2. 10

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  3. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving

  1. 12

    Slice and Serve

Slice the chocolate cake into pieces and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
