Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Jalapeños

Grill the jalapeño peppers until they are charred and tender, about 10 minutes. Remove the seeds for less heat if desired.

  2. 2

    Make the Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the grilled jalapeños, cream cheese, black beans, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Empanada Dough

You can either use store-bought empanada dough or make your own. If making from scratch, roll out the dough into circles about 4 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Empanadas

Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.

  5. 5

    Cook the Empanadas

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil. Fry the empanadas for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Alternatively, you can bake them at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes.
