Chill glass
Place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5 minutes to chill.

Stir the cocktail
In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine Hennessy XO Cognac (60 ml), simple syrup (10 ml), and Angostura bitters (1.8 ml, about 2 dashes). Stir vigorously for 20-30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

Strain and serve
Strain the cocktail into the chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube (or regular ice if large cubes are unavailable).

Hold the orange peel over the drink and twist to release oils, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink as garnish.
